There have been at least 3 sets of twins spotted around the ranch. Any trip in a vehicle, on a bike, or on foot is likely to yield multiple bambi sighting.
I'm yet to see any baby turkeys, but have been told they should be starting to appear in the next couple of weeks. The cows have gotten in on the action though.
Along with all of the baby animals, there has also been a noticeable increase in the number of beetles and giant grasshoppers around. Big bugs have been omnipresent since my first days in the jungle, but recently I've been seen big, and downright strange bugs.
This specimen is called a biluminescent click beetle. It literally has headlights.
The first of of these I was was flying, and looked like and sounded like a flying saucer, or one of the mini spy drones described in a Dan Brown novel. This critters glow is brighter than a lighting bug, and continuous.
Since my initial sighting I have seen these critters often, but remain startled by their strangeness.
Also unsure of what this critter does, though it's not quite as cool as the click beetle.
And the Bird of the Week goes to:
The Emerald Toucanet
This smallest member of the toucan family is currently nesting near Chan Chich Lodge. With a little luck I might have some baby toucanet pictures in the future too.
